Baby Things You Definitely Don’t Need

Further to my previous postings on newborn essentials and non-essentials that are nice to have, here’s a short post to look at some of the baby stuff we, first time parents easily get suckered into buying. Here’s a list of baby items that are a total waste of money in my opinion.

Wipes Warmer- When I was pregnant with Jordan, I thought that wipes warmer would be a total waste of money so I didn’t get one and I’m so glad I didn’t because I read somewhere that it’s a potential breeding ground for germs and bacteria because of the warm moist air. You definitely do not want to clean your baby’s private area with a wipe that potentially has bacteria or germs living on it – yaiks!

Shopping Cart Cover- Maybe I’m just not a germaphobe. Never have been until I had Jordan however I still didn’t really feel the need to use a shopping cart cover. The over-sanitizing of our culture is another topic altogether, but I believe that, within reason, my baby needs little germs here and there everyday.

Baby Detergent- I know there are some special cases when certain babies have ultra-sensitive skin. But since day one, I’ve washed Jordan’s clothing alongside the rest of our clothes with just a regular free & clear laundry detergent from Costco – and we’ve had no issues (considering that he has mild eczema).

Shoes – I think shoes carries a special exception like if you are going to some formal event like Baptism or  a wedding. Otherwise, buying shoes for your infant is completely unnecessary because (obviously) they can’t walk. It’s an expense that you certainly don’t need to incur so save yourself the money and the time you will spend picking them up and putting them back on their feet.

Diaper Bag Obsession

I know I already own a few Skip Hop Diaper bags and they are all great, but I always find myself wishing the bag has this or that – if only I could customize my diaper bag! More
