Blankets and Beyond
A pregnant friend just asked me about receiving/swaddling blankets which prompted this post. We have a ton of various blankets. I love having these blankets not just to swaddle the Small Fry at night but we use these literally all day, everyday. We use them to cover the car seat when we go out, or cover him while we snuggle. We also put them on the floor as a play mat and we even use it as a burp cloth.
There are so many different varieties, including the velcro type (which we used with Jordan but we weren’t really a fan of) but I would totally skip the small blankets you find at Babies ’R’ Us or other stores – they usually come in a pack of three or so and they were too small to swaddle correctly. Besides, those generally fray easily so after washing it a couple times, you’ll end up having a blanket with so many lose threads on the sides!
Two swaddle blankets that I really love are Swaddle Designs and Aden + Anais. Not only they are big, but they have classic, beautiful prints . I love how the designs are sweet, very easy on the eyes and never tacky.
Aden + Anais: The best year-round blanket for your baby! They get super soft once you wash them. And because they are lightweight, they mold to the baby’s shape making it wrap easily and perfectly.

Swaddle Designs: They are flannel, so perfect during the colder month. They’re also great to put on the floor when the baby needs a play area.
