Mom SOS: Sleep Regression/Growth Spurt at 17-18 months?
After everything we’ve been through during the first 12 months, I thought the sleep Gods granted us mercy because our little one fell into a great, predictable sleep pattern that works for everyone… that until a few days ago.
The Small Fry is definitely going through some sort of phase at the moment where he stays up an hour or so later and then he cries and shrieks at bedtime. He’s not really drooling much, so he can’t be actively cutting a tooth and I’m actually starting to think that possibly this is some kind of crazy growth spurt?
Anyone dealt with sleep regression/growth spurt around 17-18 months of age? What can I expect? How long will this last? Is it common? Any strategies?

My experience wasn’t because of natural causes. CJ had sleeping on his own down solid before I moved back in with my parents. Then of course, my parents insisted on accompanying him at bedtime to until he fell asleep in their presence, so you can imagine how much that set him/me back.
The one thing that I definitely found that helped with getting CJ back into the habit of falling asleep on his own and staying that way was to give him a nightly routine, paired with the Ferber method.
Have you guys had any luck so far? What have you tried?

We have a nightly routine from day 1 and we even tried CIO a few times when he was a around 4-6 months old. I swear I’ve read all the sleep books out there to no avail. Jordan’s just never been a great sleeper until he turned one when he started sleeping through the night.
I don’t know what happened last week – maybe he was just re-adjusting his sleep schedule because he stays up an extra 30-45 minutes at night now but thankfully he’s back to sleeping through the night! :)

My eldest goes through this every 6 months or so. Not sure what his deal is during these times, but he actually switches his entire schedule. Drives me nuts, but once it’s figured out, it’s figured out. Thankfully we’ve pretty much stuck to the same bedtime, his naps just jump all over the place.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! LOL.
