Vintage Toys

Before my Small Fry was even born (and this is back when Joy & I were just dating), I bought several vintage toys for him on eBay – Toys that I used to enjoy in my childhood, or the ones I’ve always wanted. I remember lots of imaginative play with those toys and I wish that many of those toys had been saved. I remember my mom buying them for me for $5 or less and they are now worth up to hundreds of dollars. I really wish I didn’t blow up my G.I Joe toys with fireworks! I missed them and wanted Jordan to enjoy what I had played with when I was a child.

I really think that the vintage Fisher Price toys that I had as a kid just looks cooler than the stuff out today so not long after the Small Fry was born, I bought the vintage Pull-A-Tune Xylophone on eBay. It came with the original color-coded music card that you won’t find in the Pull-A-Tune Xylophone retro version on Amazon. It’s really hard to find these days so I thought of scanning it. If you’re interested, it’s available here for download.

However, Joy made a good point about lead. Yes, I didn’t even think about lead until she brought it up so I called Fisher-Price but they couldn’t really tell me if those vintage toys has lead. I’m sure they’re not perfectly safe and maybe there’s at least a bit of lead there, but, if we encourage him not to chew on them, it should be okay right?! Besides, I played with some of those toys and I’m perfectly okay.

I still ended up buying the retro version and just have him play with that. We are just going to use the vintage toys as props for taking pictures. I also bought the Classic Chatter Telephone and Jordan loves it too!
