Questions That People Keep Asking
My husband and I were going out since 2002, got engaged in 2004 and then got married in 2005. I remember that even before we got engaged, people for some reason would push and push us to get married. Well, ever since the day after we got married people were CONSTANTLY asking us when are we going to try and have a baby. However we just ignored them and planned according to our own schedule but it’s funny how for 3 years, we got the same question over and over until we announced that we were pregnant.
You’d think the questions would stop after we have the Small Fry but this getting pregnant again talk started almost immediately. When the doctor was sewing up my stitches from the childbirth I just endured, she (and a couple of nurses) assaulted me with question of when we would have the second one. Despite of my raised eyebrows at the time, I understand where they were coming from since my labor was a breeze and the birth was so fresh, it was an issue that they wanted to address.
From the moment we brought the Small Fry home from the hospital, I can’t tell you how many friends, relatives and perfect strangers have asked me if we have plans for getting pregnant again. Now that the Small Fry is almost one, people are starting to push us to give him a little sister (or brother)! Seriously, I think it is kind of funny that the question seems to never end.
Personally, it doesn’t bother me (just amazes me) but I know some people who get very irritated and offended when people ask those questions. So my real answer to that question is yes, we want to have another baby but I don’t know exactly when. We think that about 2 years is a good age gap because then you are still on the “baby mode” and you are only adding on two more years of sleepless nights, spit-up, diapers, and baby gear. I think it would be much harder to wait five years and get used to having the bigger, more independent child, only to start all over again.

Aww I wouldn’t listen to anyone trying to talk you into rushing to baby #2. Enjoy the first one for awhile before you have to divide your attention…and grow an extra arm :)
