Mommy SOS: Bath Time Struggle!
My almost 12-month old son has developed a new habit at bath time: Standing and climbing out of the bathtub! I don’t know why he has suddenly become enthralled with the idea but in the last week or so, he decided that he only want to stand up in the tub.
The Small Fry used to play with his bath toys and splash around while staying seated in the tub. But now, as soon as I put him in, he stands up straight away, holding onto the side of the tub or on the faucet (with a safety spout cover). I would say ‘no standing’ and sit him back down but he stands straight back up again! No amount of toys (old or new) would make him sit down and I really fear of him falling and whacking himself hard on the tub.
Needless to say, bath time is really loosing it’s fun! It has gone from being a nice relaxing experience where he play with his bath toys to a very rushed, stressful affair.
So my fellow mommies, any suggestions on how to handle what has become a bath time struggle for me?

We bought a rubber bath mat so Lil Hoot wanders around pretty freely. We did have a few slips for awhile and there will probably be a few more but nothing too bad. And I can usually get her clean in just a few minutes – in fact, I can clean her faster if she’s standing. Then if she’s clean and wants out then we’re done. Try not to stress it, as long as you’re there beside him then I don’t think it’s a big deal. Almost everyone I know with a toddler has a standing up in the tub issue.

Jaxon is the same way since he was about 9 months old… around the same time as when he started standing on his own… we put those applique but of course we couldnt cover the entire tub with it – so I sit on the side of the tub and put my feet in the tub and make sure that when he is standing I have one hand on him… I no longer fill the tub either I just let the water run and wash him and the water drains right away…. just be grateful that he isnt doing what Jaxon loves to do… JUMP in the tub!

Oy, I have no wise words for you my friend. Sophie has taken to screaming like a banshee at bath time whenever we’re at my parent’s house. She doesn’t seem to like baths there. LOL. When we’re at home though, she would cooperate, until I finally get to washing her hair. Yes, I wash her from the bottom up – because she has always hated it when we wash her hair. She would struggle and wail and more often than not, we’d both end up soaked.
