Christmas 2010

We had a wonderful, magical, blessed Christmas! It was all around a fantastic 4-day weekend, spent with those we love, enjoying great food, and counting our many blessings.

Our family tradition has always been to celebrate one holiday at a time. Thus, we cut down our fresh Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and  we start decorating it that same day.

A few days before Christmas, we I bake up a storm and give them to neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. This year, I am so happy that I got to finally make some cake pops! It was a little time consuming but so worth it.

And one of the most important Christmas tradition in our family is going to church on the night of Christmas Eve. We normally go to the midnight mass but  knowing that the Smally Fry would get cranky if we would wake him up in the middle of the night, we decided to go to the early mass at least until he’s a little older. After church, we had our Christmas dinner at home and then we headed out to Candy Cane lane to see the beautiful display of Christmas lights.

Some of the best family traditions are the ones that our parents created and don’t realize until later how much they meant to us. One of these traditions in my family has become the process of looking into your stocking as soon as you wake up on Christmas morning to see what Santa has left in it. So since Michael and I got married, we still continue this tradition of opening our Christmas gifts on Christmas morning in our jammies.

The Small Fry had so much fun finding all the goodies (toys) that Santa left in his stocking. He’s been such a good boy this year! :)

Mommy was happy to get her favorite Laura Mercier lip balm from Santa!

While daddy was excited that Santa left him a new coffee mug since his other one has been 4 years old!

Santa gave grandma an eye glass repair kit since hers is always broken.

Grandpa was happy to see a shirt and his favorite Lotto tickets and scratchers!

Thank you Santa for all the gifts! Now, we opened our gifts from one another and from all our family and friends.

Soon after the gifts were opened on Christmas morning, we had our family breakfast and began preparing the meal to bring to our family Christmas celebration. Christmas evening is tradionally spent with all our relatives (we used to go to two different Christmas parties when we were still living in Virginia).

One of the most precious things you can do for your family is to establish family traditions. Tradional routines that become familiar, repeated year after year, cherished, and builds warm, beautiful memories.

So this is our family Christmas tradition… What’s yours?
